There seems to be this misguided idea that Christians should not be rich, or charge for the work they do. I recently had a lady message me in my Etsy store about some of the Christian posters I had created. She said it was wrong to make money off Christianity, and that I should do all of this for free.
I was gob-smacked. One of the overriding themes in the Bible is that God expects us to work. Yes, there must be service to others and charity, but you can’t do that unless you yourself are fed and clothed.
It reminded me of the “Parable of The Three Servants” in Matthew 25: 14:30 where a man left on a long journey and entrusted his three servants with his money.
“He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities.”
The first two servants invested his money and earned back double. The third servant simply buried the bag of money because he was afraid he would lose it. When the man returned, he was furious with the third servant, but praised the first two.
Why?
Because God gives us talents and skills that we need to use to the best of our ability. When we make money, we are then in a position to help those less fortunate than ourselves. By not utilising those talents, we never reach the full potential God knows we have.
With this in mind, Bill Platt and I looked at how we could use our skills to pay back to the community. Both he and I have approached non-profit organisations with an idea to help them raise funds, using the self-publishing, marketing and design skills we have between us.
But, we are only two people. How could we expand this and help other authors like ourselves to do the same thing? That is how “Christian Publishing Treasures” was conceived.
In this training Bill and I show you how to create Low-Content Journals & Planners, how to produce them quickly, how to customize them to make them more attractive to buyers, how to make your Christian Journals stand out on Amazon, and how to work with local churches to sell your Christian Journals for huge profits. Even if you have never considered self-publishing or creating journals and planners, this training will enable you to get started immediately.
You can make a difference, both to your family’s well being, and to your local churches.
Ah, the age old dilemma. Yes, we are to make money. How else can we give to the poor, the needy and help our churches fund mission trips and programs for kids, etc?
Admittedly, it is hard to charge for these things, but what people don’t realize is that the majority of the price is for printing. The ones I have published for print, I only make $2-$4 a piece, despite the prices being between $7 and $15.
For the question of should Christians be rich? That’s entirely up to God. He’s never allowed me to be rich, and he may never allow it, but we still have to make money to pay bills and care for those less fortunate. 😉
